After graduating from OSU, Dale Laurance earned master’s and PhD chemical engineering degrees from the University of Kansas in 1971 and 1973. Laurance worked at E.I. DuPont de Nemours from 1967 to 1977, developing products and processes for films and nylon intermediates; he holds several U.S. patents as a result of the work. He moved to Olin Corporation in 1977, then to Occidental Chemical Corporation in 1983 as a vice president. He became president of the company in 1996. Laurance is a director of several companies and professional organizations and is involved in many Los Angeles area volunteer activities. He served as chair of the Advisory Board for the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Kansas from 1985 to 1997, and is a member of the department’s Hall of Fame. Laurance has been an honorary member of OSU’s Chemical Engineering Advisory Board since 1997 and a member of the OSU College of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Engineers since 1999.
